Halloween is the best time of year for spooky games, and we’ve got a list of our absolute favorites. If you’re like us and you live for those Halloween vibes—whether that means charming adventures, survival challenges, or something totally creepy—these games will hit the spot. Let’s go!
Don’t Starve Together
Don't Starve Together is perfect for a spooky night in, but without the major scares. It's a survival game that goes full Halloween around this time of year. The whole world gets a spooky makeover, and it's just so cool to see everything get that eerie twist. Plus, if you're on PC, there's a "buy one, gift one" deal, which means you get to pull a friend into the madness for free. Definitely a solid pick if you want a Halloween game night that's more thrilling than terrifying.
Luigi’s Mansion 2
If you love the Mario universe, you have to try Luigi's Mansion 2. It's not super scary, but it's got that perfect ghost-hunting vibe. You get to play as Luigi, hunting ghosts, solving puzzles, and exploring haunted mansions. Plus, the HD version has co-op multiplayer—ScareScraper mode! You and your buddies can climb floors, save each other from traps, and have a blast ghost-busting as a team. It's seriously a good time, especially for fans of light-hearted spooky games.
Costume Quest 1 and 2
Costume Quest 1 and Costume Quest 2 are all about trick-or-treating, quests, and Halloween costumes that give you cool powers making these games a real treat (pun intended). Costume Quest 2 even has a multiplayer mode, so you can jump in with friends. It's super family-friendly, but honestly, the humor and charm work for all ages. Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions nailed that nostalgic Halloween feel. They're both on Steam and are just perfect for a cozy Halloween gaming session.
Pumpkin Jack
Pumpkin Jack is one of my all-time favorites. It's a 3D platformer where you play as Jack, a pumpkin-headed warrior (so cool!) who was summoned by the devil himself. The whole game is just dripping with Halloween style—graveyards, haunted villages, creepy puzzles, and even boss fights. It recently got a PS5 and Switch physical release through Limited Run Games, which is awesome for collectors. If you're into classic 3D platformers, you HAVE to try it.
Spookware
Spookware is basically WarioWare, but make it spooky! You're on a road trip with the skelebros—Lefti, Midi, and Righti—and each stop is filled with microgames based on horror tropes. You'll be solving mysteries, starting a high school band, and just doing a bunch of ridiculous stuff. It's a casual game, but the spooky vibes are top-notch, and it's genuinely funny. Perfect if you're looking for something light and quirky this Halloween.
Fifo’s Night
Fifo's Night is an awesome 3D puzzle-platformer where you play as Fifo, a ghost who's trying to restore magical candies to keep supernatural creatures in check. The mansion is HUGE, with all these secret rooms, puzzles, and spooky surprises. It's got a classic platformer feel and a fun, lighthearted spookiness that's just right for all ages. Oh, and it's free to play on Steam. You seriously can't beat that—go check it out!
Five Nights at Freddy’s
We can't talk Halloween games without mentioning Five Nights at Freddy's. This game is legendary. It came out in 2014, made by indie dev Scott Cawthon, and kicked off one of the biggest horror franchises ever. You play as Mike Schmidt, a night guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, trying to survive while these animatronic monsters stalk you. The whole setup is so simple—you just have cameras, doors, and limited power—but it's intense. Fun fact: the game got a movie last year in 2023, and there's already a sequel planned for 2025. If you've never played it, now's the perfect time—it's on Steam.
